Back to Normal- Week 6

The girls went back to school this week and boy was I celebrating. It was nice to get back to my routine, and enjoy time with only one kid at home. Although I had more running around to do, going back and forth to school, I had more time to myself to get my work done.

It seems to rain here a lot at 3:00pm just as I am picking up the girls from school. Of course it only last maybe 30 minutes but long enough to soak us if I forget to bring rain stuff. I tend to forget rain gear....a lot. Let it be known that a good nanny would remember umbrellas and raincoats but a great nanny lets you play in rain!

I was invited by some other au pairs through a Facebook meet up group to go out on friday night. It was fun to go out for the first time here. The girls were nice, we had a few drinks and got to know one another and then went dancing. I think that the au pair groups are wonderful to help make friends, as there are all kinds of girls all looking for friends.

On saturday we had friends over for lunch and I met Tanya in Sydney for dinner. She brought along one of her german roommates and then we went back to her flat to drink and hangout. It was so much fun to meet people from all over the world and have fun!

It's still hard to be away from home. I can honestly say that if I didn't have Skype, FaceTime or Facebook, I probably wouldn't still be here in Australia. I found out about a new app called Magic Jack which is awesome. Essentially I can call phone numbers in North American on my iPod by using the wireless. The quality is actually pretty good and its a great alternative to video chats. The negative side is that everyone from home is not able to call my phone but it makes for some great surprise phone calls!

Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach Walk- Week Five

This weekend I met up with Tanya, a friend of a friend who was also from Canada! So many people told me that I will feel more Canadian being here in Australia and they were right. It was so nice to meet up with another Canadian and talk about home. Just being able to say did you hear what happened in Calgary, and Toronto and Quebec, and have them know exactly was so nice. We did the beach walk from Bondi to Coogee, and while the beach wasn't full of sunbathers it was still fun!

I would recommend for anyone else going to do the walk to check the weather conditions, I was sweating in my jeans and t-shirt. Also to bring water and food, there is water fountains along the walk but the food is expensive to buy.
